A variety of bets can be placed at a harness racing event. To help you get started, we've defined the most popular betting options below

Common Betting Techniques
Win Select the horse you think will win the race, and if it does, you win! Your horse, however, must win the race in order for you to collect.

Place Select a horse you think will finish first or second. If the horse does finish first or second, you win.

Show Means selecting a horse you think will finish third or better. If it does, you cash in the winning ticket.

Daily Double In this wager, you select the winners of two consecutive races. Both horses must win in order for you to win.

Quinella The quinella requires you to select the first two finishers in a single race. They may finish in either order, just as long as they are the first two horses across the finish line.

Exacta or Perfecta Here, you select the top two finishers in a given race, but they must finish in the order you have selected them.

Trifecta or Triple Here you select the top three finishers in a race. You win when your three horses are the first three to cross the finish wire. If you place a "straight" Trifecta wager, they must finish in the exact order you selected them; if you place a "box" wager (explained below), they may finish in any order.

Superfecta This requires you to select the first four finishers in a given race. As with the Trifecta, you may play this wager "straight" or "boxed," and you win if the first four horses at the finish are in exact or any order, respectively.

Twin Trifecta You are required to place a Trifecta wager on one race. If that wager wins, you are paid a winning price from the wagering pool and are allowed to make a second Trifecta bet, free, on the race that comprises the second half of the Twin Trifectas.

Superfecta Much like the Twin Trifecta, except that the second half of the wager requires you to select the top four finishers in the second half.

Ways to Increase Your Winning Chances
Wheel Wagers This is actually a method of combining one horse with several others in the same wager. A Wheel keys one horse to any or all of the wagers. A "Wheel" using the number five, for example, would give you the following wagers: 1-5, 2-5, 3-5, 4-5, 5-6 ... etc. (The actual number of bets is determined by the number of horses in the race.)

Box Wagers This wagering method combines several horses in one race in every possible way. An Exacta "Box" wager combining horses 1, 2, and 7 would, for example, give you the following wagers: 1-2, 2-1, 1-7, 7-1, 2-7 and 7-2.
